Braveheart (1995) is one of my personal favorite movies. It is a winner of multiple Academy Awards, and boasts one of the most moving soundtracks in film history. It is one of Mel Gibson’s finest cinematic accomplishments, both as an actor and director. The story is very diverse, ranging from war, drama, and even a heartfelt romance. This is a perfect movie for date night, and I’m sure will be one of your favorites for years to come.
Bill & Ted (1989) is a ridiculous over-the-top comedy film about a charismatic duo of “rockstars”. Bill and Ted take an adventure through time to help them pass their history final, and they encounter plenty of notable people along the way. This movie is also more family-friendly than a lot of comedies out there. I won’t spoil any of the surprises, but let me just say that this movie is “most excellent” when it comes to having a good time.
Wayne’s World (1992) is goofy, ridiculous, and overall enjoyable experience. Some of the jokes are a little outdated, but the movie still carries plenty of laughs for all ages. It isn’t as serious or critically acclaimed as some of the other movies that I have suggested to you all, but it is a whole lot of fun. Don’t expect incredible acting performances or moving scenes, just go into it looking for a good time and I promise it won’t let you down.
A Quiet Place (2018) is one of the most creative horror movies to come out in this century. The movie is incredibly terrifying thanks to the horrifying creatures of this post-apocalyptic story. The monsters in this movie are blind and hunt their prey using only their ears. Because of this the movie could almost be classified as a silent movie, but this only adds to the suspense. The movie is intense and the acting is top of the line, I would highly recommend it.
The Dark Knight (2008) is without a doubt the best Batman movie in history. And I know this might sound cliche but it’s one of the darkest movies ever made, and at some parts it is shockingly hard to watch. But don’t let that sway you from watching, because most of the dark scenes are produced by The Joker (Heath Ledger). He plays the role better than any human could have ever played it, and he delivered what some critics claim as the best acting performance in cinematic history. Even if you have no interest in super hero movies, you will be glad you watched this one.
Airplane (1980) is a ridiculously hilarious movie. It is stuffed to the brim with hilarious one-liners and over-the-top scenarios. This is one of the few comedy movies that gets better with age and can still be relevant. It’s hilarious and has jokes that will please anyone. The movies crowning achievement is the bar scene, and it is certain to leave you in tears.
Batman Begins (2005) is the first movie in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy. This movie fully embraces the darkness surrounding Batman’s character and focuses a lot on fear and it’s effect on the mind. Christian Bale takes on the role and truly solidified himself as the perfect Batman. All around great movie if you enjoy superhero films.
Reservoir Dogs (1992) is truly an incredible film, and it’s no surprise it is directed by Quentin Tarantino. In my opinion, Tarantino is by far the greatest movie director of all time, and it isn’t even close. Every movie he’s ever made is truly a masterpiece, and this one is no exception. It’s fast paced, packed with incredibly interesting dialogue, and stuffed to the brim with characters who just ooze charisma. This is a crime film and it is truly an intense one right from the start. If you haven’t seen this movie, watch it. Trust me you will not regret seeing this at all.
Se7en (1995) is an incredibly well known film for having an excruciatingly tough and grity ending. I won’t spoil anything for you, but expect your anxiety levels to be through the roof for the last 30 minutes of the film. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman team up as detectives to catch a serial killer who bases his kills off of the seven deadly sins found in the Bible. Don’t let the slow start of this movie fool you into quitting out early, there are plenty of surprises in store once you get into it. Also Kevin Spacey plays the villain and it can’t hardly get creepier than that.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) is every action movie lovers dream come true. The movie is jammed to the brim with amazing car chases, incredible cinematography, and a ridiculous amount of stuff blowing up. It also is stuffed with non-CGI stunts and it is truly awesome to watch. Don’t expect a ton of plot or story involved, we’re here to watch real people jumping back and forth from exploding vehicles in the middle of the dessert.
Halloween (2018) is the sequel to the original that fans have been waiting on for forty years. It’s grity, aggressive, and just flat out awesome. It’s rare in the horror genre to get a good story and action in a horror movie, and this falls into it. The ending is a classic horror trope and is truly a satisfying good time. This is the best reimagining of Michael Meyers in a long run of movies, and after many years he’s back to being truly terrifying.
